Optimising your Online Store

When creating an Ecommerce business, you need your customers to do an awful lot for you. You need them to put trust in you that your products are good enough to buy and your website is secure enough to trust with their sensitive and valuable information to purchase from you and come back and spend more money there in the future.

So, the least you can do for them is make your website user-friendly and put yourself in the position to get the highest number of conversions possible.

Customer care and satisfaction is vital to the success of any business and there should be clear opportunities on your website for your customers to engage with you in person through email, telephone or online live chat. Utilise social media for this purpose too.

Make sure the homepage loads quickly. The ideal load time is 2 seconds or less. If shoppers have to wait or the site isn’t optimised for their mobile devices, they may well leave without seeing what you have to offer. Streamline your design by reducing the number of HTTP requests needed to load the various components, which will speed up the load time. This can also be achieved by compressing pages to reduce the bandwidth. There are other ways to do this too so if load time is a problem, it might be worth contacting the professionals.

Update your homepage regularly. Seeing Christmas stock midway through March is one of the quickest ways to turn customers off your products.

Make sure the navigation is easy to use and users don’t have to go through tons of pages to get where they want to be. The right number is around three clicks maximum.

Have all the information a consumer might need on your product page. This includes sizing information, detailed product description, shipping details and a returns policy as well as different views of the item and colour selections included.

Make the call to action obvious. A big, bold ‘buy now’ button is ideal! After that, ensure the checkout process as easy as possible to reduce cart abandonment. Completing a transaction should be a simple, smooth process.

Security is important to prevent your clients from getting nervous about the trustworthiness of your site. Be certain it’s completely secure and all updates are installed regularly.
