How Often Should You Post on Social Media?

Social media is a key tenant of marketing activity no matter your business. However, there are so many different approaches and results can vary wildly! There’s no exact science but this blog aims to bring you some important guidelines that can help you find the right balance.

One thing you need to consider is who your audience are and when they’re going to be online. It all depends on your business and what you’re offering but, for example, advertising business strategy services on a Friday evening when people are trying to wind down, might not be as effective as you would hope.

You also need to consider how frequently you post. There are many guides out there for various platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, we recommend at least once a day – over posting can have a negative effect on your online presence and people are inclined to unfollow you if you over post. But don’t feel restrained by it, post as you see fit for your business and bear in mind ‘the rules’. Just ensure you’re not posting so often that it feels spammy or so little that you struggle to gain new followers or engage your current ones. It can be tricky to find this balance so be sure to keep track of your analytics and see what is and isn’t effective.

The most vital aspect of your social media posting is making sure you post what’s valuable. Don’t get bogged down with the idea you must post a certain number of times a day even if that means tweeting something completely inane that could irritate your customer base.

Before you post anything on any social media platform, ask yourself: is this relevant to my target audience? Is it consistent the values and objectives of my brand? Is it authentic? If the answer to all three of these questions is ‘yes’, you can be sure you have content that is worth posting.
